- We worked our way around the classroom, exploring the text for evidence of how Poe created suspense in "The Tell-Tale Heart."
- We are going to be writing a CRE to answer this question.

- We finished our exploration of the text and organized our CRE. Some of us even began typing! When we're done, it will get turned in on Google Classroom!

- Quotation Marks lesson in composition notebook

- Turned in the final copy of the Genius Paragraph, using quotation marks correctly
- Learned how to write a blog post; it must have:
- 2 paragraph summary
- Describe 2 active reading strategies that you used
- Specific evidence about how you used each strategy while you were reading
- Began typing our first blog post, will finish next week

MONDAY
- We watched a video about Edgar Allan Poe (video below), took notes and wrote a 5-7 sentence response
- Then, we visited the website Knowing Poe to explore about his life. There is a packet of info to fill out.

- Wrote a draft of this week's Genius Paragraph, to be turned in on Friday
- Continued/finished our exploration of the Poe website, as well as the Poe Museum for a virtual tour

- We read Edgar Allan Poe's "The Tell Tale Heart," stopping to think and make predictions
THURSDAY
- We did a second reading of "The Tell Tale Heart," focusing on important vocabulary. Below are the slides which outline the vocabulary that is important to know.

- We did a third reading of "The Tell Tale Heart" with a partner, searching for figurative language in the text.

- Wrote a final draft of the Genius Paragraph we wrote on Tuesday, grading for:
- the regulars (FANBOY, topic sentence, details, appositive)
- the Weekly Focus (commas)
- the other concepts we've worked on (adjectives, adverbs, capitalization)
- Watched the rest of "The Outsiders" movie
- Took notes on the rules of using Commas in writing.
- Watched the first part of "The Outsiders" movie
- Read the article "Teens who believe they'll die young turn to crime, study says"
- Participated in an XPR (Extreme Paired Reading) discussion over the article
- Wrote a Dialogue Journal (summarized the article, wrote connections and questions)
- Reflected on our participation in the group discussion
- Genius Paragraph - edit and revise, turn in on Friday

- Read pages 100-104 of The Outsiders in chapter 7. We are taking our time reading chapter 7, breaking it up over a few days.
- Split up into groups to read "Ready, Set, Pull Out Your Rosary" - everyone had a role and worked on that role with their group. Groups discussed sections of the text, using their role.
Wednesday
- Read pages 104-110 of The Outsiders in chapter 7. We will finish chapter 7 tomorrow.
- Played a round of Mind Soccer to review for tomorrow's vocab test over chapters 4, 5, and 6.
- Responded in a Dialogue Journal to yesterday's reading and discussion to the following questions

- What is your definition of a hero? Do the three greasers (Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally) prove themselves to be heroes, according to your definition? Be sure to explain your thoughts.

- We took notes over Elements of Plot terms (page 6 in composition book). We practiced completing the Plot Pyramid (page 7) using the video below:
Plot Terms notes:
- Exposition - the beginning of the story, introducing characters and the setting
- Rising Action - events that move the plot forward, bring us closer to the climax of the story
- Climax - the most intense part of the story, where the main conflict takes place.
- Falling Action - events that begin to answer some of the questions, tie up loose ends
- Resolution - the problems in the story are solved.

- Read and finished Chapter 3 of The Outsiders.
- Practiced summarizing the chapter (on page 10 of our composition notebooks) with a 5Ws chart - Who, What, When, Where, Why

- Took notes on finding the THEME or CENTRAL IDEA of the story. Here are the highlights, and go on the tree on page 2 of your Composition Notebook:

- any theme can be considered valid, as long as it is supported by EVIDENCE

Watch the video below, looking for the central idea/life lesson that can be learned. What evidence do you have? Then, look at Chapter 2 of The Outsiders. What is the central theme from that section of the book?
